Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is a revolutionary new treatment option which uses your own specially prepared blood to help heal chronic joint, ligament, and tendon injuries. It is essentially completely natural and has very few risks, since the medicine is made from your own body.

Dr. Attaman can inject PRP to any joint, ligament, or tendon in the body. The most common applications are for achilles tendonitis, rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, hamstring tears, gluteus medius tears, and plantar fasciitis. These are all very responsive to PRP therapy in general.

He is one of the only physicians on the west coast to have the training required to safely perform PRP injections in the ligaments and tendons of the spine using x-ray image guidance. Dr. Attaman is the only physician in the state of Washington using PRP in the spine who is Anesthesiology fellowship trained in Pain Medicine and Interventional Pain Management.

Image guidance involves the use of X-rays to properly see the bony anatomy of the spine, and allows Dr. Attaman to safely guide the needle to the intended target. Dr. Attaman uses fluoroscopy and CT-scans to help guide his needles. This results in better safety for the patient and increased accuracy and outcomes.

Traditionally, PRP has been performed without image guidance in the spine region. This can be dangerous particularly in the neck and mid back regions where your anatomy is particularly delicate.
